3/2/2017 0 Comments I Am A Little Caterpillar1995, Written & Illustrated by François Crozat I Am A Little Caterpillar is a nonfiction picturebook tracing the life of one caterpillar as he grows from an egg to a beautiful butterfly. The caterpillar narrates his life himself, and even occasionally breaks the 4th wall and addresses the reader himself. A childhood favorite of mine, I Am A Little Caterpillar teaches factual information about the lifecycle of a butterfly in an accessible and intriguing way with beautiful illustrations. Great for young children (toddler through kindergarten) who are fascinated by nature, this book also makes a great Early Reader for older children learning how to read (kindergarten through 2nd grade). The prose is simple but engaging, with a good mix of sight words and decodable words. And in the background of it all is the changing of the seasons, which adds another layer to the story. An overlooked classic!
