She has practiced, she knows all the lines, and she knows she can nail the part. The only problem is that, even though George is a girl, everyone else thinks that she is a boy. George is a wonderful middlegrade novel about a transgender girl who is certain of her identity but is not so certain of how to go about revealing it to the other people in her life, especially to her brother and mother. She believes that if she can only play Charlotte in the play, others will finally see her as a girl.
George is an incredibly accessible story for young readers (3rd-5th grade). George herself is an incredibly endearing character, and her story is told in an empathetic and relatable way. George is a wonderful way to access a point of view that rarely gets to be told.
