As Hurricane Katrina batters the city of New Orleans, Patience and the 18 other penguins are airlifted to an aquarium in Monterey Bay, where they wait for their home to be fixed. Patience in particular misses her keeper, Tom, but she lives up to her name and tries to be patient. A Penguin Named Patience is such a great read. It is an accessible way to teach kids about Hurricane Katrina, but also is a great story beyond that angle. Patience stays calm and thrives in whatever situation she finds herself in through her trust of Tom and by being patient, so this book would be a great way to explore those concepts with young children as well. And it goes without saying that it is a must for kids who love penguins! Watch a video documenting this true story below!
